Strike Back aired last night (Saturday) on ABC1 at 8:30. Armitage thoughts under cut:

To be clear, I'm not part of the Armitage Army and I certainly don't follow Richard Amritage's work regularly, but I have immense respect for Richard Armitage. He had a part in the cheesy Robin Hood as a leather clad run of the mill baddie and elevated Guy into someone really complex and interesting. My family were channel flicking one day and happened upon the intense scene between Guy and Marian's father in series one. We were hooked by Armitage's smouldering intensity and deep inner conflict. I would never have kept watching Robin Hood from week to week if it were not for his stellar performance and I will never understand those who say the man can't act.

Guy of Gisbourne remains one of my favourite male characters in a TV show ever and I still secretly wish him and Marian were off happy together (though of course I loved her and Robin Hood too). I never got to the end of series three of Robin Hood, mainly because I thought the series two finale was one of the most idiotic endings I have ever had the misfortune to see on TV (alongside Spooks 9.8 ironically enough. Poor RA has the worst luck!), and also because I went overseas not long after it aired. I intend to watch though to find out about the Guy storyline that deals with his dark past. Did anyone catch series three? Was it any good?

My friend and I also watched North and South together for our English Ext. HSC and admired Armitage's sexy voice and very nuanced performance together. It was a kind Spooks fan's reccomendation to stick around for Armitage and series seven that stopped me from jumping ship after series six of Spooks. I still think that series seven was Spooks at its very best; largely helped by the strong performance of RA as Lucas. I loved his initial entrance to Spooks as Lucas North; his bad assery, his relationship with Ros and his loyalty to the Team. Again, Lucas demonstrates Richard's amazing ability at playing morally ambiguous parts and getting you to sympathise with him. Since then I've watched him when he's on the telly and I happen to notice.

His character in Strike Back reminded me of series seven Lucas before the writer's got lame and engaged in character trashing. John was tough, bad ass, damaged, dark and brooding, sexy and damaged and I loved every second of Mr Armitage on my screen. I thought the acting was strong across the board and the representation of MI6 very telling (Come on Spooks- be brave. Learn from Strike Back. Talk about Iraq. It's ok. Seriously. You can be topical again if you really try. Also you are MI5, not MI6. Writer's it's not that hard. Seriously.) I have no idea of how next week's episode with Mugabe and Zimbabwe connects with dodgy MI6 man and John's past and the reason for the boy being left behind but I am sure it will be explained eventually and I will definitely be watching next Saturday night.

So flist what do you all think of RA? of Strike Back if you saw it? Of Robin Hood? I am happy because I just made a tag for RA ;)
