I finished my take home exam for history today and am now onto my notes for my politics exam next week. Wish me luck!

I was browsing tumblr (as you do) and someone mentioned how one of their favourite Disney movies was Hercules. It had been awhile but I knew I loved it as a child. Anyway after a quick YT search I found this

BEST. SONG. EVER.

So flist, what Disney song is your favourite? The one that still fills you with childish delight? Link me in the comments :)

Good luck with your exams! Hope the history one went well :)

I've never actually seen Hercules, my favourite Disney song is Colours of the Wind from Pocahontas

Yeah I was talking about Pocahontas too. It just never spoke to me in the same way that The Lion King, Aladdin and 101 Dalmations did.

I was always more of a Disney Princesses kind of girl, Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, I loved 101 Dalmations as well though.

Aladdin used to terrify me. I remember having to be taken out of the room once when we watched it in school!

Better in Greek tbh. Very rare that I'd say that but the Greek dub is perfection.

Mine probs has to the The Bells of Notre Dame - every time it kills me XD

OMG YOU ARE AMAZING. I went and listened to the Greek version and WOW.

I didn't remember this song at all. I don't think I liked the movie as much as the others but it's a great song!

It's so upsetting.
I was never a huge fan of that - mean it's okay but not a fav. Beauty & The Beast and Little Mermaid however... :D

Oh God me too. Mufasa dying gets me. Every. Single. Time.

My friends and I went and saw the 3D version (not because we like 3D but because we wanted to see TLK in cinema) and wow I was a mess. But OMG Circle of Life is even better than what I rememebered it to be. It may well be my favourite opening to any movie ever. Also, I was squeeing at the end with Raffiki holding up Simba's son on pride rock to a reprise and then THE LION KING BOOM.

So epic.

I LOVE HBC!!!

I didn't see any Disney other than Mickey Mouse as a child - I clearly had a deprived childhood. I'm not sure what had and hadn't been made/exported to UK but whatever - it didn't reach me! So all my Disney experiences are adult ones. I think Bambi and April Showers probably gives me the childish delight feeling. I must have been still fairly young when I saw it. And of course any piece from the soundtrack to Fantasia transports me straight into the film!!

You didn't experience The Lion King as an adult? Aladdin? The Nightmare Before Christmas? I'm 21 and I still love those films.

Have some Fantasia :)

Yes! I've seen them all - and thanks for the Fantasia offering because my copy is packed away somewhere in a box ready to go to Portugal. But I saw them all as an adult, or in some cases as a young adult, so they don't have a childhood resonance for me. I adore Nightmare but always think of it as Tim Burton rather than as Disney. Yes, I know...

I love a lot of the Disney films.

I have to say that the way some kids are given a diet of Disney versions of the classics without reading/owning the books worries me - they end up with a rather oversweet view of the world of the fairytale and I would prefer them to read Grimm, for instance, first. But that isn't Disney's fault and some of the best Disney stuff is quite superb.

I didn't mean specifically take you back to childhood memories so much as make you feel young again (just to clarify)

Why does it worry you? If they are interested they can go back to the originals later can't they?

What Disney movies do you like?

As a kid I loved 101 Dalmations. I looked up a scene on YT and WOW the animation is GOERGOUS.

I love Tim Burton - and I love PotC - and I love Fantasia 1 and 2. I'm not keen on the Mickey Mouse stuff. I get quickly bored by the Cinderella-type films.

I have noticed that the kids (girls in particular) who start with Disney and then move on to the original stories tend to have unrealistic expectations of happy endings and glorious love affairs whereas the ones who start with the stories can then appreciate Disney animation. Just an observation based on my teaching experience and it might not apply in every case - it's obviously a generalisation and there will be other factors involved. The unrealistic expectations also seem to spill over into attitudes to other literature etc. though maybe the attitudes come first and the approach to Disney second?

I find the Disney 'take' on fairy tales rather too reminiscent of the Bowdlerised version of Shakespeare, for me personally, but that's probably because I'm fairly steeped in classic myth/legend/fairytale. The animation and music etc. are certainly still good - just not in a cause that hooks me!!

I liked 101 Dalmations and of course it stuck closely to the original book!

That's kind of like asking me to pick a favorite star in that sky you know. But I'd probably have to go with this one:
