On Tuesday, Mum, my brother and I went and saw the live version finale of Spicks and Specks. After over 200 episodes, 7 series and many laughs at Hamish's expense, Adam, Alan and Myf are saying goodbye around Australia. I cannot lie. My heart may just be a little bit broken by the exit of a comedy music quiz show. But really guys. The ABC had the best Wednesday line up happening. If it wasn't Chris Lilley, it was the Chaser Boys or Margaret and David and The Gruen Transfer/Planet, and always, steady as a rock, Spicks and Specks: my university blues tonic that got me through the week till Saturday night and Doctor Who. It's the end of an era. I've been watching this show since I was about 16. Maybe even earlier.

The show itself was the best thing I'd seen since Season's Greetings in London (which LOL because they are completely different beasts.) From the opening number where Adam sang John Farnham Your the Voice, Alan did a tap dance and Myf got down and dirty to Single Ladies, the audience was in stitches... and it wouldn't have been a Spicks and Specks show without the boys throwing off their costumes to reveal Beyonce leotards to join Myf in a trio rendition of Single Ladies.

Then it was time to play Spicks and Specks, with the audience as the guest stars. I was one person off being picked for Myf's team on stage. Damn. Let me explain. I have had a girl crush on Myf Warhurst since high school music trips and my Dad's continued insistence that we listen to Aussie music and triple J and Myf introduced me one lunch time to Missy Higgins and her initial hit Scar. Missy and I have been close ever since. Thanks Myf. Plus you know Myf is hot and probably secretly wishes her life was a musical like me and has no shame like me and dresses like its still the 80s... like me. God. I'll miss her and her hilarious fan girling every week.

How could you not love this:

When I "grow up" I vow to be a Myf ;)

Erm so anyway. The Show. It was a great mix of stand up Adam Hillsy comedy mixed with music knowledge assisted by audience participation and rude jokes about Myf and her male audience team member. I especially loved Substitute done with Adam, Alan and Myf dancing around to lyrics they'd invented about their top moments to popular tunes with contestants having to guess what they were. Also, team members having to ride a bike to produce song lyrics that other team members had to guess the song, with one young girl completely doing the whole thing wrong causing Myf's team to get zero points for the round. Also, when the audience got carried away and shouted out answers before the team's had guessed... which was basically... all the time.

Finally, how could I forget the amazing ending when the trio explained to all of us 1000 in the Hordon Pavilion, Sydney, why they'd chosen to end the show of their own volition, despite its spot as number one ABC program. God, when Myf made a speech about loving everyone in the audience, I nearlly lost it altogether. And then I did. When Adam ended with, "This is Adam Hills. You've been watching Spicks and Specks. Goodnight Sydney," and the band played the song Spicks and Specks as a screen played the 'best of the show' and Adam, Alan and Myf danced around on stage. I cried.

And all over a music quiz show. Only in Australia.
