Thoughts on entertainment for the week
Nov. 2nd, 2009 03:54 pmi sincerely hope someone reads this and comments ;) People over at 15 days of deverry, I'm looking at you.
Rant: People hating on Matt Smith as The Doctor... seriously guys give new talent a chance. If David Tennant wants out he wants out of the show, they can't force him to stay... thats ridiculous. Besides, he had the rougish charm down pat in Ruby in the Smoke as Jim Tayler. I reccommend people check that movie out. It was brilliant, especially Billie Piper and Julie Walters.
random question: Just what is everyone's opinion of Billie Piper? People seem very divided.
Personally, I love her to bits and I think she's an astonishing actress especially in the aforementioned Ruby in the Smoke. plus she was cool in Doctor Who as Rose Tyler. Any opinions?
Acting: America vs. Britain? Why does British (BBC) stuff always seem to me over in Australia to be both better acted and better scripted? I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that alot of British actors do theatre, film and Tv all at once, wheras in the US there's not as much mixing? But that dosen't explain the script writing :/ Maybe we just don't see the really good stuff over here? Would someone over in the US care to discuss with me, or perhaps suggest some good US shows that I could check out?
Music: ok seriously guys wtf happened to good old fashioned rock music? seriously they just don't write rock music like they did back in the day (60s, 70, 80s). it worries me that one of my best friends (also 19) says the beatles are her fave band- not coz the beatles arn't good but just coz there isn't anything more recent for her to turn to thats sufficently mainstream. i mean elton john, the beatles, the who, deep purple, cold chisel, david bowie... the list goes on and on... what do we have today? good charlotte and fall out boy? i mean what happened? why the slump? i for one love me some rock n roll to listen to... so why am I stuck stealing my mum's cds?
and for the record I detest whats on the radio at the moment. RnB, rap, raunchy pop shit... i hate this crap. please... even the sexual pop of the 90's was better than this. bring back the spice girls, billie piper, God even boy and girl bands were better than this beyonce bullshit.
I'm turning to underground stuff just to get me some change... Emilie Autumn, Within Temptation etcand more localised experimental singers like Missy Higgins and Eskimo Joe
If there's anyone out there please comment :)

Date: 2009-11-03 09:02 am (UTC)I think it's just a shock for people to deal with David Tennant leaving. You have to admit it was a lot due to his boyish and idiotic charm that had so many newer, younger fans flocking to Doctor Who, right? But I do trust you that Matt Smith will be a good actor, but it's just a shock and we have a lot of expectations for him. :)
I love Rose. Hence I love Billie Piper. I thought she was really nasty to Donna in the last few eps, like, uncharacteristically cold and nasty, but I suppose she'd been through a lot. But anyways.
BBC! I enjoy the BBD! :D To me, in America it's either being funny or having good looks. But then again, I don't really know. All the actors I had crushes on were like David Tennant, Richard Armitage, Ben Barnes, Jim Sturgess- all British men. Haha.
I quite like music nowadays, but I have a very broad range of musical liking-ness. From folk to rock to a little of metal. I really like folk music, like Peter Paul and Mary... Haha. Would you have ever guessed? But then I do love the newer, edgy kind of rock. My japanese bands are a good example. I really do harbour a strong hating of R&B and pop nowadays, but oh well. That's why I don't listen to the radio so much. 8)
LOL I'd let you listen to j-rock but I doubt you'd like it. I can introduce you to a band called Bayside, they're... Very strange, but I really like them. They sound kind of circus-y and not quite right, but yeah, lemme know. ^^
