Self explanatory and under a cut link

1) Favourite episode?
I tried to answer this once on the Spooks forum and listed eleventy billion episodes. IT JUST ISN'T POSSIBLE TO CHOOSE. I will list instead and attempt to be brief.
2.5: BECAUSE EVERYONE KNOWS IT'S THE BEST. Zoe and Tom were in charge for one thing. Ruth is awesome only I never noticed the first time round. Tom tells Ruth after she stabs scissors in the wall that when the lights come back on she'll be the most important person in the room (!!!) There is Shakespeare quoting and Harry laughter and Sam and Danny cuteness and Colin and Malcolm nerd and drinks at The George AND MOST IMPORTANTLY OF ALL HARRY GETS INTO THE POD WITH RUTH AND THEY LAUGH TOGETHER. I EXPLODED WITH SQUEE WHEN I REWATCHED AND NOTICED THAT FOR THE FIRST TIME.
2.10: To quote another lj user "Oh no Tom! Not the ocean." I love that ending though. It's still in my opinion the best finale Spooks did other than series seven. Also the music used throughout the episode is lovely.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSaSgXquBWY
Also 2.10 was when I first realised Spooks was going to emotionally scar me for life.
3.5: Ruth, Malcolm and The Red Shoes plus Zoe and Danny and moral conundrum
3.6: Zoe. Oh God. Zoe. Danny's face. Oh. God.
3.7: Forrestal and RUTHCENTRIC EPISODE. FINALLY. TOOK THE SCRIPTWRITERS LONG ENOUGH. Also she and Forrestal quote Khalil Gilbran and now I love his poetry so thankyou Spooks. Also, Danny and Ruth friendship is highlighted just in time to break out hearts more thoroughly down the track. 'Promise me that we'll never be alone and bitter." Oh Ruth. How little do you know of your future in eight and nine :(
4.9: Ruth/Harry and the infamous bus scene (in which Nicola Walker improvises and dirties it up and makes millions of fans happier people for it)
4.10: Diana conspirary. THIS WAS SO GREAT. ALSO RUTH/HARRY WALL PINNING. Oh I shipped them so hard back in the day. WHO WOULDN'T AFTER SEXY WALL PINNING.
All of series seven: Because Richard Armitage's Lucas was not Adam, because Jo got some personality, because Ros turned from annoying Ruth destroying bitch into really funny, cold bitch who is on our side and cool as anything anyone has ever come up with before, because Harry got out off the Grid, because Connie. OH. GOD. CONNIE.
And now I will stop.

2) When did you start watching?
Either the very start of this year or the end of last year. I rented out series one from the library because my Mum and I needed a post A2A Keeley fix. We got to series four before I decided this show was GREAT AND I COULDN'T LIVE WITHOUT IT ON MY SHELF so I spent lots of money buying 1 through to 8 on DVD.

3) Favourite guest star?
Hugh Laurie. Back in the series one days he was lolarious in his annoyingness. Does Juliet count? She had her moments.

4) Favourite female character?
Ruth, though I did grow to love and miss Ros and her one liners. But just Ruth. RUTH. RUTH. RUTH.

) Least favourite female character?
Fiona. Though I didn't mind her really. She just died before I could invest in her and then the overkill Adam flashbacks made me hate her and him. (I was so glad when Adam left).

6) Favourite location?
Er... Tower Bridge because I've been there. WAIT. HOW COULD I BE SO STUPID. THE SERIES TWO RUTH BENCH OPPOSITE WESTMINSTER OF COURSE. I sat on that bench :)

7) Best exit?
All of the exits have broken my blinking heart. Helen had a pretty spectacular one. Zoe did too even though I was emotionally scarred but at least Zoe got her boyfriend. Ruth's was deeply painful but well written. Ben's was thoroughly shocking. Um... um... I CAN'T DECIDE. My favourite scene was Tom wading out into the ocean to Jennie Muskett's Hold Me Tight but that wasn't his real exit damn it.

I'll say Zoe. It was a good exit. But it also killed me to watch.

8) Worst exit?
Zaf. WHAT THE SHIT WRITERS. I WILL NEVER FORGIVE THE GITS THAT WROTE SERIES SIX. NEVER. Yuck.

9) Favourite baddie?
Spygran because I did not see it coming at all until 7.7 (or was it 7.6) and the evil smile she gives Harry's turned back as the music swells and you realise OH SHIT SHE IS THE MOLE and that razor wire scene was the most shocking thing I'd seen since 1.2 and the deep fat frier.

10) Least favourite baddie?
SARAH FUCKING CAULFIELD. SERIES EIGHT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH BETTER WITHOUT YOU IN IT.

11) Favourite male character?
Danny. He was the most consistent in terms of character developement. Harry went all over the flipping place post 5.5. I do like the Colin and Malcolm team though.

12) Least favourite male character?
In the end it was bloody Adam. I liked him so much in series three and four but I grew to hate him post 5.5. It was because he got with Ros and I hated Ros for getting rid of Ruth(smug bitch!)and his flashbacks were so annoying and series six turned into the Adam/Ros show and it sucked so much and God I hated him and that Iranian woman. Tbh he'd outstayed his welcome by series seven.

13) Favourite couple?
I liked Zoe and Danny (even though they weren't technically a couple there was affection there at least on Danny's part). They were cute. But really there is only one possible answer to this question and thats Ruth and Harry but I don't know how I feel about that relationship anymore so er no clue?

14) Favourite quote?
I liked it in 3.7 when Ruth quotes The Coming of the Ship but that's not a proper Spooks quote. Um... anything Ros ever said in series seven and eight.
OH GOD. WHEN SHE FIRST SEES YOUNG TARIQ AT THE COMPUTER ON THE GRID AND SHE RAISES AN EYEBROW, TURNS TO LUCAS AND SAYS LOUDLY "WHAT... IS THAT." I laughed myself silly over that.
Series Two Ruth's opening scenes were pretty funny"
Ruth: Am I late?
Harry: You're the intelligence agent YOU ought to know. (starts laughing hysterically at his own joke. No one else laughs. He looks at Zoe. She has an eye brow raised. He shuts up)
I don't think that scene will ever get old. God I miss Zoe and her eye brow raising at everyone on the Grid.
or the same episode when Ruth is fiddling with her desk lamp.
Zoe: So. What do you think?
Danny: Bonkers...
Zoe: But Brilliant!
Ruth: (Snaps lamp in half somehow and throws it in the bin) THING!
Zoe, Sam and Danny stare in silence.
TEE HEE LOVE YOU SO MUCH RUTH.

15) Tom, Adam, Lucas: who would win in a fight?
Tom was the most calm and collected. Adam was a smug git but he would lose post 4.7 for sure. Series seven Lucas was really bad ass plus he was in Russian prison for eight years. Tom could manipulate Lucas though, expecially in light of eight and nine. Tom or Lucas. Most likely Lucas. Plus he has Ros on his side to stab forks.

16) Favourite actress?
What a stupid question. If anyone doesn't answer Nicola Walker with this they are crazy. Though Hermione Norris gets mega bonus points for getting me to like her initially unlikeable character. Ros was amazing in the end. But still Nicola. I think. But Hermione was so funny. Who could forget her expression when the guy next to her in the car got shot and the blood went up her face and she has this disgusted expression on her face that's so icy and calm and like "WHO DARES MESS WITH THE GREAT ROS MYERS." Also I loved Keeley and her expressions and eye brow querying. Also she told Harry where to go. But still probably Nicola, if only for the spontaneous acting additions she added to the scripts. But it is an unfair call to start with because Zoe got the least screentime to develop and Ros was not consistently developed like Ruth was. OH DAMN IT. NICOLA WALKER IT IS IF ONLY BECAUSE I HAVE A RIDICULOUSLY BAD FEMALE CRUSH ON HER IN EVERYTHING EVER.

17) Least favourite episode?
Everything post 5.5 and all of series six. They really struggled without Ruth. I nearlly gave up on Spooks altogether. That's how bad it got.

18) Most interesting plot?
Lucas, Harry, Connie and Sugarhorse for sure.

19) Least interesting plot?
1.1 was pretty bland though Nightingale was pretty stupid.

20) Plot that should have been developed/carried on?

The logistics of Sugarhorse and Connie rather than stupid Sarah and Nightingale. They were onto such a good thing with that and then they just dumped it and didn't explain anything. Which was a shame. Because series seven WAS FUCKING AMAZING.

21) An episode that made you cry?
I cried when Tom went into the ocean at the end of 2.10 because it was so chillingly beautiful. Danny's face at the end of 3.6. I couldn't see anything for the last five minutes of that episode. I didn't cry with Danny and 3.10 because I was too shocked and numb. But by far the worst one for tears was 5.5. I felt like I'd run a marathon after watching that AND TO THIS DAY I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT RUTH'S PARTING WORDS TO HARRY WERE BECAUSE I HYSTERICALLY CRIED ALL THROUGH IT. I've decided I will never watch that episode again if Ruth does not get a happy ending. That's how deeply upsetting this episode was.
Though as someone else pointed out... the whole premise of Spooks is enough to bring on a deluge of tears. Ruth's storyline alone makes me consistently want to break down. RUTH STOP BEING SO DEPRESSING DAMN IT. I CAN'T TAKE THE ANGST MUCH LONGER. EVERYONE IN THIS SHOW IS SCREWED.

22) Favourite actor?
I like most of them: Peter Firth, the guys that played Danny, Colin and Malcolm, Richard Armitage and Matthew McFayden. I don't honestly know that I can pick.

23) Favourite personal interaction between characters?
Danny and Zoe and the thing about herbal tea was funny. I pretty much loved every Zoe/Danny interaction ever (God I miss those two), I loved "Oiii Evershed," from Dimitri to Ruth, Ruth/Harry in series 2 through to 5, Ruth and Danny (that was such an evil thing to do to us show. I hate you/love you). I liked the Tom/Zoe/Danny/Sam interactions back in the day. Ros and Lucas were cool too. I can't choose.

24) Favourite quote?
Didn't I just answer that?

Ruth: I am NOT naive.

Ruth: You try remembering the Mandarin for quark (IT'S JUST QUARK RUTH GOD.)

Harry: Fuck you with bells on (I think it was to Oliver Mace? Him or Jools)

Person Ros is looking after: Safe houses... no soul
Ros: Actually Nicko, this is my house.
HAHAHAHAHA OH ROS.

And also another Ros one (from series five)
Zaf: Where's Jo?
Ros: Death by mascara. It was horrible to watch. Ruth's agonizing over the fact that there are no more horses in modern-day warfare and Adam's on a course learning how to lift his knuckles off the ground. So, you'll have to make do with me, I'm afraid.
Zaf: Shouldn't you be in prison or something?
Ros: This is the something.
HAHAHAHHA.

And this from 5.5:
Ros Myers: [after Zaf refuses to tell her Ruth's location] It's all right, I don't need to know. I just hope she's well hidden, that's all, because there's going to be a full-scale witch-hunt. Just hope she's got a broomstick.

ACTUALLY MAYBE I HAVE SECRETLY LOVED ROS MYERS ALL ALONG. I JUST NEED TO REWATCH SERIES FIVE AND SIX WITHOUT FEELING LIKE MY SOUL HAS BEEN STOLEN FROM ME BECAUSE RUTH IS GONE.

Series six and Harry missing Ruth (though maybe it was series five. My memory is apalling of the 5.5-6.10 days).
Harry: Does anyone have any information that didn't come from typing Sons of Phineas into Google?"

There are just so many brilliant quotes on this show...
25) Dream guest star?
LET'S BE COMPLETELY UNREALISTIC HERE. HELENA BONHAM CARTER AS A SEXY SPY.

26) Favourite dodgy government type?
Juliet :P Or the Home Sec played by Robert Glenister.

27) What would you want to see in a Spooks movie?
There shouldn't ever be one. Not ever.

28) How would you end the show?
Harry stays. Ruth and Harry walk off the Grid together and everyone else quietly follows and they walk to The George for drinks. Maybe Tom is in the background and Ruth looks back confusedly for a second (because let's face it she would) and then Tom is gone so she shakes it off and keeps walking, preferably holding Harry's hand (oh yeah, about me Ruth/Harry shipping... I lied. I do it ALL OF THE TIME.)

29) Least favourite dodgy government type
Oliver Mace. God I hated him by 5.5. YOU BASTARD. YOU DESERVED HARRY GLASSING YOU. YOU GOT RID OF RUTH HELPED BY ROS TATTLE TELLING. I HATE YOU.
I didn't like Ros' father either. Or that annoying gov woman who played Liz 10 in Dr Who and was making Ruth spy on the Grid and Tom finds out :( Hated her too.

30) Something you learned from watching the show.
Many things actually. I shall list them.
1. THIS SHOW IS THE MOST ANGST FILLED, HEARTBREAKINGLY AWFUL SHOW IN THE UNIVERSE AND DON'T THINK THINGS WILL EVER END WELL BECAUSE THEY DAMN WELL WON'T.
2. NICOLA WALKER IS ACTING GODDESS.
3. IF SOMEONE TRIES TO RECRUIT ME RUN FAR FAR AWAY.
4. RUTH WILL NEVER STOP BREAKING MY HEART.
5. YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO NOT BECOME OVERLY EMOTIONALLY INVESTED IN CHARACTERS
6. RUTH HAS THE WORLD'S SHITTIEST LIFE. FACT. ALSO, HARRY CAN BE A RIGHT GIT LIKE ADAM WHEN HE WANTS TO BE.
7. HARRY'S MORALS MAKE ZERO SENSE AND HE WOULD BE SO FUCKED WITHOUT RUTH THERE TELLING HIM WHAT THE SHIT TO DO.
8. RUTH IS QUEEN OF THE GRID AND THE FATALITY RATE OF SECTION D WOULD BE A LOT LOWER WITH HER IN CHARGE BECAUSE SHE'S AWESOME THAT WAY.
9. RUTH IS ALWAYS RIGHT GUYS. ALWAYS. START LISTENING TO HER.
10. IT SUCKS BIG TIME TO BE A SPY. BIG, BIG TIME. YOU KNOW THIS SHOW IS BAD WHEN THE HAPPIEST ENDING THEY'VE HAD INVOLVED EXILE TO CHILE WITHOUT POSSESSIONS AND WITH THE PROVISO THAT YOU CAN NEVER, EVER COME BACK TO YOUR HOME COUNTRY.SEE? THIS SHOW MAKES ME WEEP BITTER, BITTER TEARS.

And yay finished. That took me an hour to type up :P

OH GOSH. RUTHIE NEEDS A HUG, RIGHT? And don't they all just have shitty lives, I mean, it gets worse with each series... I fear for Beth and Dimitri, I do - And OH, Tariq, do not become jaded, my boy.

SO I AGREE WITH THIS POST. Christ, someone needs a happy ending, just please, show. I need a bit of levity back.

Also, how have I not friended you yet? *shakes head at self*

At least series 1 through to 3 had moments of humour to break up the depression. I was quite relieved when Dimitri looked like he could be a bit of comic relief but then they underused him damn it! I still can't believe the happiest ending they had was Zoe getting exiled! At the time I thought that was awful. How foolish and innocent I was back in the day on the topic of Spooks. How foolish I was to think that Tom wading into the ocean was the WORST thing that Spooks could throw at me? *shakes head at self*

I LOVE Tariq and his outer geek :P

I found myself really missing Ros in series nine just because there wasn't anyone to provide funny one liners anymore and series nine was like one massive vat of gloom and pain and angst. Ruth broke my heart so many damn times per episode I stopped counting.

Friends back.
