That awesome moment when...
Jul. 12th, 2011 07:22 pmYou follow a Spooks link to a website on the new eight part tv series entitled World Without End because Peter Firth has been cast in it and discover Miranda Richardson's gorgeous face on your screen and then get excited because this lovely lady hasn't been in anything substantial in like forever (and yes I am aware of Made in Dagenham) and frankly is far, far more exciting a cast edition than Peter Firth... after all who could ever forget Queen Mab in Merlin or the chillingly cold mother in Wah Wah or the stepmother in Sleepy Hollow or Manda scarring me for life as a kid in Chicken Run or THREE PARTS AT ONCE IN SPIDER. THREE. MIRANDA RICHARDSON SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN AN OSCAR THAT YEAR I TELL YOU.

Also, when you remember Helena Bonham Carter has been cast in Great Expectatons as Ms Havisham and might even be up for the Tom Hooper movie version of Les Miserables as Madame Thernadier. Life doesn't get any better...

Date: 2011-07-12 06:21 pm (UTC)Okay, I do agree that it is always good to see an actor in other roles, but Peter's best roles arguably came early in his career - in Equus and The Flipside of Dominic Hide/Another Flip For Dominic. I also loved him in Letter to Brezhnev. He has not been in the greatest of productions it has to be said, but in those I have seen, his acting has been excellent and he's done well with what he has been given. His TV roles in The Vice and Law & Order:SVU were also very well acted. His brief appearance as the doctor in Shadowlands was also noteworthy (one of my favourite films of all time).
....and I do give you credit for trying, especially when tired! ;) x

(just to get an idea of a role that is not Harry-esque) ;)
I suppose he does act within himself as Harry most of the time, but I still think the range has been well showcased over the seasons. I take your point though, and am looking forward to seeing him playing Earl Roland - who ironically is 'ruthless' according to the blurb about World Without End. ;)
