I was pleasantly surprised. It was far better than LKH imo. Also, far better than Gatiss' previous effort with Victory of the Daleks which was the worst episode of s5 imo.

Review under cut :)

The guest stars in this episode were all really awesome! I loved Jamie, the little boy (also the star of the confidential with his percussion contribution to The Confidential Song by Karen... is it bad that I enjoy the confidentials more than the episodes? Karen, Matt and Arthur? WHY SO ADORKABLE?) who was actually an alien and Daniel Mays as the father. I was worried I would be thinking of him the whole time in A2A but it wasn't so bad.

I liked the atmostphere of this episode with us not knowing what was going on till right at the end and the creepy, creepy dolls who giggled and sung. The song at the end was so creepy! It was one of the highlights of the episode for me and I hope its on the s6 soundtrack. I liked that Amy and Rory have been so much more "couplish" this series and LOL at Amy doing what the dolls least expected.

I loved The Doctor working with children again. Eleven is so good with them and his brilliant madcap childlike adventurous joy is so fun to watch. I've missed it from s5. WELCOME BACK.

The episode's plot doesn't really stand up to much scrutiny eg what kind of alien is the kid? how did he contact The Doctor? How would an alien living on earth really work? But hey at this point I'm happy as long as its better than LKH lol.

NEXT WEEK'S EPISODE LOOKS AMAZING. THE GIRL WHO WAITED. I AM PREPARED TO BE TRAPPED IN A NIGHTMARE OF A FAIRYSTORY SURROUNDED BY MANY TISSUES. BRING IT ON SHOW.

In conclusion, I am more optimistic about the series again (even if I do wish Amy and Rory would display some concern over River being their child, and a rather dangerously insane one at that).

Oh shut up [livejournal.com profile] squint13 I can hear you already all the way to Australia. "All good things come to those who can wait..." and for once I wasn't Moffucked. For once I didn't have a head broken in half at the end of the episode. YAY.

I loved this episode! And the song seriously creeped me out. Have you seen the lyrics to it? I'm confinced it's going to mean something at the end.

(even if I do wish Amy and Rory would display some concern over River being their child, and a rather dangerously insane one at that)

Night Terrors was actually orginally meant to be in the first half of the series. They just added the bit at the end with the Doctor looking at the screen in the TARDIS. So when this was filmed Rory and Amy didn't know they had a kid.

And yes, tissues at the ready for The Girl Who Waited!

I read the lyrics somewhere and I totally agree with you! So ominous!

OOOH thanks for that. It explains alot then! Damn pesky continuity.

IS THE GIRL WHO WAITED GOOD? I AM SO EXCITED FOR IT.

ps: why the hell do I not have an Amy icon?

Trying desperately not to spoil TGWW, but have you also been seeing comments about the episode such as "But Nine and Ten would *never* have done that"? I'm having real issues with those comments, because Nine and Ten so totally would. Throughout Time the Doctor has been a coldhearted, inhuman git who doesn't "get" humanity - because he isn't human and can never understand our emotions! Matt has been the best at portraying this side of the Doctor since Classic Who, if you ask me :)

Dom just looked up Daniel Mays for me, since you mentioned A2A and I am an addict - and friends with Mason Kayne.

I am thoroughly ashamed of myself for not recognising him and therefore hand in my Geek Card... :/

Remember Gene Hunt's tragic, silent ghost? That's Mason.

I first got chatting to him on Twitter and he added me on FB once he learned that we had a great deal in common - including Doctor Who! I remember when Marshall Lancaster was in Rebel Flesh/Almost People, and Mason was absolutely thrilled for him :)

Got you. I thought it was but I thought I had better check first :P

I know another girl on lj who is friends with that actor too. Weird.

Chris was so great in Doctor Who AS WAS DANIEL MAYS.

ps: I love that icon!

Mason is lovely. I probably know your other friend if she's Facebook friends with him! He's a really sweet young lad who wants to know his fans, wants to be liked and loves Doctor Who! He'd love to be in the show if the right role comes up, and I really hope it does.

I think I didn't recognise Daniel because he was playing a nice bloke for once lol! I *did* think he was familiar though :)

It was quite a good episode, right? I loved the interactions between Eleven and Alex <3 (loving the fact that our hipster doctor continues his habit of having chemistry with anyone/anything ^^)

It was rather nice not having to think too much too, wasn't it - although I'm sure if we scratch the surface there's gonna turn out to be more than we first thought *laughs*

(have you read elisi's and owlsie's and promethia_tenk's reviews/meta/analysises? they're really good. i also found one today about LKH, which explained a lot and made it make a lot more sense - i can go find a link if you wanna read too ^^ not trying to make you change your mind, but it's just a good read *shrug*)

THE NEXT EPISODE IS AMAZING <333333 You will not be disappointed, I dare promise you :D

LINKS ARE LOVE!

Oh hipster Eleven. I heart you.

Links it is, then! :D

http://doctorwho.livejournal.com/7976857.html (this one's on mirroring and identity in LKH - I found it highly enlightening, but that may just be me - that episode was so full of stuff that I just gave up right away on trying to figure it out, so this was a nice little essay/meta/whatever it's caled-thing ^^)

Are you a member of Who_Daily? It links to fanfic and graphics and other stuff every day, it's where I find all this meta and stuff. Just be careful what links you follow, as they're ahead of you. :)

His absolute horror at Amy maybe going to tweet was hilarious XD Not to mention wanting to go to number 2, because number 1 is apparently too popular - he is really too darling ^^

Oh, I've already seen it, and it was amazing :D (wish I'd had kleenex though - as it is I just grabbed on to the nearest towel and hopefully the neighboors weren't too alarmed by my loud sobs *laughs*)

Ah, so you did like it. I told you Gatiss was good. ;)
The atmosphere is what I liked best about this ep, it was really nice. That and Amy/Rory. (And do prepare tissues for next week, just saying).

It was ok but it wasn't great lol. Too many unanswered bits but it was better than last week :P

I AM SO READY FOR NEXT WEEK.

The only thing I would do differently would be to minimise the landlord's bits so Daniel Mays could have more time at the end to come to terms with his alien child. I felt that was a bit rushed.

I liked the ep, but I thought it was a bit simple - well, less epic. Well, it wasn't mind blowing like a lot of Season 5 (this is the first S6 eps I watched haha). I mean, it was just heartwarming, really. :)

I liked it...except for it being total nightmare fodder. Stupid f-ing creepy dolls. *I have a "china" music box doll...that like to randomly go off in the middle of the night. Hence why it's stuffed in the back of my closet*
