I was pleasantly surprised. It was far better than LKH imo. Also, far better than Gatiss' previous effort with Victory of the Daleks which was the worst episode of s5 imo.

Review under cut :)

The guest stars in this episode were all really awesome! I loved Jamie, the little boy (also the star of the confidential with his percussion contribution to The Confidential Song by Karen... is it bad that I enjoy the confidentials more than the episodes? Karen, Matt and Arthur? WHY SO ADORKABLE?) who was actually an alien and Daniel Mays as the father. I was worried I would be thinking of him the whole time in A2A but it wasn't so bad.

I liked the atmostphere of this episode with us not knowing what was going on till right at the end and the creepy, creepy dolls who giggled and sung. The song at the end was so creepy! It was one of the highlights of the episode for me and I hope its on the s6 soundtrack. I liked that Amy and Rory have been so much more "couplish" this series and LOL at Amy doing what the dolls least expected.

I loved The Doctor working with children again. Eleven is so good with them and his brilliant madcap childlike adventurous joy is so fun to watch. I've missed it from s5. WELCOME BACK.

The episode's plot doesn't really stand up to much scrutiny eg what kind of alien is the kid? how did he contact The Doctor? How would an alien living on earth really work? But hey at this point I'm happy as long as its better than LKH lol.

NEXT WEEK'S EPISODE LOOKS AMAZING. THE GIRL WHO WAITED. I AM PREPARED TO BE TRAPPED IN A NIGHTMARE OF A FAIRYSTORY SURROUNDED BY MANY TISSUES. BRING IT ON SHOW.

In conclusion, I am more optimistic about the series again (even if I do wish Amy and Rory would display some concern over River being their child, and a rather dangerously insane one at that).

Oh shut up [livejournal.com profile] squint13 I can hear you already all the way to Australia. "All good things come to those who can wait..." and for once I wasn't Moffucked. For once I didn't have a head broken in half at the end of the episode. YAY.

Trying desperately not to spoil TGWW, but have you also been seeing comments about the episode such as "But Nine and Ten would *never* have done that"? I'm having real issues with those comments, because Nine and Ten so totally would. Throughout Time the Doctor has been a coldhearted, inhuman git who doesn't "get" humanity - because he isn't human and can never understand our emotions! Matt has been the best at portraying this side of the Doctor since Classic Who, if you ask me :)
